What is hosting?

Once your website is completed, it will need to reside on a publicly accessible computer known as a server. When a potential visitor types in the web address to your website, their browser will be directed to the server that houses your site. The server upon which your site resides is referred to as a hosting server. The space on the server is typically rented at a monthly or annual rate.

Some technical knowledge is required in order to set up and maintain a hosting account for a website. Most people do not want to be bothered with the technical details associated with hosting and maintaining a website.
